Bured CD Will only play one track

I don't know if anyone can help but whenever I burn an audio cd everything seems to go like it should, and the cd will play fine on the computer. But when you try to play it on a Walkman or Car CD player it will only play track one. It will play the entire CD on track one and won't allow you to skip to other tracks. If anyone knows why it does this your help would be greatly appreciated. thanks.

I've tried the latest version of Nero, Realplayer and Sonicstage all result in the same outcome.

This issue has been discussed at length many times before, check the older posts. Basically, the older players don't like the cdr's much. Try burning the disc at a slower speed, and try a different brand of media. I find the CMC Magentics cdr's sold as KHypermedia, HP, or Memorex play well in older players.

I've tried at the lowest speeds and several in between with different types of media still with the same results. The computer is only two months old so the ageof the burner should not be an issue

Digitaldoc's concern wasn't the age of the burner. It was the age of the player (i.e. the Walkman and car CD player).

Digitaldoc may have nailed it, but I'm not completely convinced. Do I understand you correctly that the Walkman and car CD player play everything you recorded on the CD, except that it all appears to be in one track, namely track 1?

What is the source material for the CD? What songs are you burning to it, and what format are the original songs?

My suspicion is the same as burninfool - that you are burning track-at-once rather than disc-at-once and you aren't finalizing the disc.

The car Cd Player is rather old so that may have some factor, but my Walkman is is less than a year old and I've never had any trouble playing burned CD's from other computer's in the past. You are right that the entire CD will play on track 1 and when you try to skip to another track it won't do anything. I thought myself that the settings may have been on track at once instead of disc at once but I've made sure it was on DAO. Songs are mainly copied from CD's I own using REAL One player in mp3 format. I'm not sure what you mean by not finalizing the disc so that may be something I'm doing wrong.

So are you making a data disc with mp3 music files on it, or a Red Book audio CD (the standard kind of audio CD)?

If you are trying to make a standard Red Book audio CD, then ripping the songs as mp3 files first not only reduces the quality of the final CD, it may be indirectly responsible for the one-track phenomenon you are experiencing.

Just for fun, try making a CD compilation without using Real Player or mp3 files. Start Nero, select a new audio CD as your project, put the source CD(s) into the drive, drag a few song tracks from the source CD(s) to the Nero audio compilation window, and then burn it. See what that does.

Yes, my concern was the age of the players. The older players don't do well with cdr discs (and they like cdrw even less).

Try using Musicmatch Jukebox to convert the mp3's to wav files on a cdr. And definitely finalize the disc.

I tried doing what you said in burning the songs directly from the CD with NERO and I still get the same results. I thought burning programs like NERO and Real player automatically converted mp3 files to wav files when the files are burned. I may be wrong though. Now in finalizing the disc. NERO says it is finalizing the disc as the last step in the burn process so I think it is being finalized, but I don't know if there is some setting you can check to make sure that the disc is being finalized.

Yes, Nero will convert mp3 to Red Book audio PCM when burning audio CDs, but I wanted you to try the experiment to rule out the possibility that somehow you were burning one big track due to some interaction with the mp3 files.

The setting to finalize the disc is on the "Burn" tab of the compilation.

This just doesn't make any sense to me. I don't think I'm going to be able to help you. The behavior you describe is something I have never heard anyone else experience. The only thing I can suggest is trying is to use a different CD-RW drive to burn the CD. You've tried different burning programs, different source material, different play-back devices and see the same behavior. That would seem to leave the burner itself as the only common element.

What burner are you using, and have you updated it to the latest firmware?

I'm using a "QSI CDR/DVD SBW242U" It's the drive tha came with the computer. Thanks for all the time I do appreciate it. The computer is still under warranty so I think I'm going to have to just take it in and see if they can figure it out as everything I do doesn't seem to work and I wasn't starting to suspect it may be the burner as well.
