Pioneer Electronics Announces 16x DVD±RW - DVR-A08XL

DVD-R/W, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM

The drive are also availible in black and white around the oem design

both japanese companies IO data and Buffalo already have information regarding the OEM flavors of this drive

IO data lists the drive (internal) @ 19,845 yen (Buffalo lists it at the same)
that is around $180 USD at current rates

well that drive looks smokin, silver one is all mine

but then again, hacked fimware seemed to come out faster for the 107

haha how about this, can it burn g03 (1x) at 16x?

im more concernted about 8x burning at 16x

You mean G03 (1x) right? :lol:

To bad that ther's no support for -dl. QAlthough the standards for 16x -r haven't been defined, this drive is an insurance that it will soon. What about -r dl? For what I've read it will be out in the begining of 2005? Can anyone confirm this?

previous rumor was that pio release 8x drive with 4x -dl 2.4x +dl support in aug & 16x +/- drive with both 4x +/- dl at the end of year, but i guess pio was on the pressure from benq & other 16x burners....perhaps that's why they have not released -r drive; 109a was rumored to be released on at the end of the year

Hrm, that's not the rumour I heard... I had heard pretty much exactly what this drive is, only I also heard that Pioneer was TRYING to get 2x DVD-R9 support for this one, but would likely jump straight to 4x DVD-R9 on the A09 in December.

One of the reasons that Pioneer didn't bring out DVD-R9 is from lack of support on the format, since the DVD-Forum is starting to get a lot of pressure from the film industry against it!

BTW, dolph, when burning at 8x on my 712 v my 107, makes a huge difference of resources used, and what I can do simultanesouly, big imporvement from the 708 too, so that leads me to believe that the 8MB buffer does help it, at least in this case.


Buy one more PX-712A instead. The OEM price is now under US$100 and the retail price is about US$20. :D
