AVG or AntiVir?

Postby TheCDBurner on Sun Jul 04, 2004 9:49 pm

OK, I've been using AntiVir. Thinking about AVG.
AntiVir has one very annoying "feature"; continues 'net access (mostly receiving). Don't know why; it has no auto-updater, and CONTINOUS? And if I engage ZoneAlarm's internet lock, the AV gaurd program shuts off; unlock it, it's back on. WTF?

So I'm using AVG right now.

Norton is 100% out; I've seen too many virus' that can shut it down (not good with the hunted kills the hunter). McAfee? To slow, too much $. Sticking with the free stuff.

Norton, the best AV software I have ever used. Works like a charm, plenty of features, and new versions every year with new features.

AVG all the way. I've been using it for about 1.5 yrs now and not a single problem the auto update is great too. Norton/McAfee installs too much crap for me.

I've had the same problem this guy did (different virus, though):

Stupid thing shut down norton. That was the last I ever used any norton product (I'll give it one thing, though; it's fast).

None of the above. You use free AVs, don't bitch if you get infected.

If you want a solid antivirus with decent detection rates, NOD32. Just remember that it's a good idea to use it with an AntiTrojan/AntiWorm product as well.

If you want comprehensive protection, Kaspersky 5.0 Personal is a solid app with broad detection and access to an extended database which includes pornware, adware and other riskware. It's also pretty light on the system, unlike 4.5.

I have always used NAV and switched to NIS Pro when changed my connection to Broadband. Norton used to be good, but for me it's getting bloated day by day and takes a long time to install. Even though Bloodhound is running, there's no guarantee that it will detect all viruses unless you scan manually.

Kaspersky looks attractive, however anyone has experience with Kaspersky's Anti Hacker?

Cheers.

Nor iron bars a cage;
Minds innocent and quiet take
That for an hermitage;
If I have freedom in my love,
And in my soul am free,
Angels alone that soar above
Enjoy such liberty. - Richard Lovelace
