Plextors Gigarec is far more useful - since you can adjust the level (how much capacity boost you actually get), and all they do is shrink the pit size, which means at low levels (+20%-30%) the discs can be read by a fair number of drives.
HD-BURN not only changes the pit size, but error correction encoding. At it would help ALOT if HD-BURN actually worked. I've got about a 20-25% failure rate on HD-BURN discs (used to use it all the time; until I discovered alot of the discs didn't work because of errors). Every disc was burned on a TY disc, too, so disc quality wasn't an issue. But then, the DD0401 never has had good write quality, to CDs, DVDs, or HD-BURN discs
