DVD-R/W, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM

Any idea on pricing of DL media when it comes out?

I need to buy drive in the next couple of weeks, and I'm pretty sure at the moment that I'm going to go for an NEC 2510. The only other one I was considering is the new LG DL drive. What are LG drives like generally? The NEC is £70 and the LG is £85. Is DVDRAM media likely to drop in price anytime soon?

I don't think DVD-RAM will be dropping in price no... there is too little demand for it.

Not as cheap as I expected. Livewarehouse wants $98 for the 2510:

The price will probably come down as more places get it in stock.

What I would like to know before I fork out my cash is if my 2 Yamahas and Norcent DVD Players will be able to playback those DL discs because if they aren't going to be compatible with the current crop of DVD Players forget it. I'll stick with my little 4x Pioneer.

Make sure whatever drive you end up with has book-type setting! Otherwise nothing will play them :(

One good thing about the 2510: Herrie probably will make a patched firmware with book-type setting!

You say that, but it's now possible to get DVD-RAM for less than £2 a piece -- that's down around 150% from six months ago.

Ok, yeah, there was a small price drop on DVD-RAM a couple months back. But I don't anticipate any more price drops. Trust me, if they happen, I'll know about it. Optodisc and Maxell are the two biggest manufacturers of DVD-RAM media, and I'm direct to both of them (Ritek also makes DVD-RAM, but they aren't too competitive in North America I find)
