Notebook Configurator.....

There is Compaq and HP, then there is eMachines (it does not allow you to configure it though).

What are the other reputed options available to get a custom Notebook? I will want AMD based notebooks only.

YUK! eMachines is crap, wouldn't use one if you paid me, go HP, I love mine, and service is the best.

it seems now HP is takin over the higher end market and compaq's are lower-introductory market for notebooks

at least that is whats going on in staples

Duuude... does HP offer an Athlon 64 3200+, 60GB HDD, ATI Mobility Radeon 9600, WiFi, 15.4" widescreen and a DVDwriter on their laptops? I think NOT! And anyway, EMachines use Arima as an OEM, as do HP/Compaq and WinBook!

How many eMachines PCs have you used, anyway?

Proudly 0. From what I hear, the systems are junk, and the support is craptastic. The only company I would go to for a laptop is HP, buy *MAYBE* Dell, depends on pricing. Desktops I'd have to get a self-built.

but with all that stuff in a notebook, would it even last longer then 15 minutes on battery?

Besides HP & Compaq, who else allows us to configure our stuff? Does anyone give us a choice of not including any software? (OS, Money ect.)

Hmm.. the laptop goes down to 800Mhz on battery, and the avg. battery life seems to be around 2-2.5 hrs. Not stellar, but not bad either.

Uhhhh, that's kind of slow, even when running off of battery...
I get about 3-3.5 hours out of my HP ze4401us, Athlon XP 2200+.

Figures are off the top of my head. Besides, even your 2200+ will be slowing down when on battery if PowerNow is enabled. Also, 64bit >*

bhairavp is right.I didnt knew that Arima was OEM manufacturer for HP/Compaq.

Arima is possibly one of the best mobile computer manufactures outside of Japan in the name of quality and options

Arima is one of the few manufactures outside of Japan of mobile computers that I have seen with lack of dead pixels on the lcd, the e machines model manufactured by them is no exception

Too bad yukamo does not sell to the US (I do not know who the oem is)
Medion also uses a good oem (if you can find out who the oem is)

I wish that the high quality Japanese makers like Toshiba, sharp, or Fujistu would make a amd athlon based system or even nec or Panasonic

but any way I would go e machines (great price to hardware ratio)
