Just started, Nero BackItUp and DVD Shrink both bluescreens?

Postby SkaarjMaster on Thu Apr 08, 2004 10:19 pm

My first ever attempt at DVD burning was tonight. I decided to backup the original Matrix movie as it is one of my favorite. I started with DVD Shrink (latest version I believe), it analyzed the movie and then I tried to backup and got a blue screen and my computer either automatically rebooted or I pressed ESC to get it to reboot.

I then tried Nero BackItUp (from Nero 6 Ultra) and got the same thing as it was bringing up the program (never even started). I also went into DVD Decrypter, but wasn't too clear on exactly what I was doing so I exited. Any advice or suggestions for a first time burner?

.......OK, part of my problem seemed to be InCD.sys error, so I uninstalled InCD and EasyWriter....whatever those are and I was able to open NeroBurningROM without an error. Did I forget to mention this didn't even open either? Anyway, I may try just doing a DVD Copy with Nero and see what happens.

8) I just backed up the Matrix with DVD Shrink and I think it worked. Does it make any difference that I burned the files with DVD Shrink vs. Nero 6 Ultra Burning ROM?

Should this be moved to the "Other CD/DVD Burning Software" section? I'm not sure.

If the apps you took out made it work were from nero and an older EZ cd creator product then they will definately conflict with each other.
Did you burn the files with that option in the new dvd shrink to use nero after you rip the files to your drive?
If it worked then you'll be fine.Using either won't hurt.
I haven't used shrink in a while.I only use Nere Recode and nero express to burn the files.

No, believe it or not the apps came with Nero Ultra 6. Anyway, they are gone and no more conflicts and I waved as I deleted them, hehe.

As far as DVD Shrink, I'm not sure if I clicked the option to burn with Nero later. Whatever I did, it seemed like it stayed in DVD Shrink to burn it. I'll be trying Matrix Reloaded next. 8)

I watched The Matrix and it seemed fine with no glitches on my Toshiba SD-4800 DVD player. The only thing I might have seen (and I'm still not sure I really did) was ever-so-slight blurring around the edges of some of the character faces, but was extremely rare and I may have seen it 3 times and it only lasted about 5 seconds each time. I'm not going to waste a DVD-R burning in Nero to find out though. This works and I'm sticking with it until it doesn't.

I just burned Matrix: Reloaded today and it worked (plays on Toshiba DVd player with no problems) with DVDShrink/Nero6!!! It seems that burning with Nero is checked within DVD Shrink. =D>

Just tried the backup DVD (The Matrix) and it seemed to play fine with the 4.7s (just upgraded from 3.9s to 4.7s), but the picture seemed to get bad for a few seconds and then get clear again at a few moments throughout the DVD. What it's doing is slightly messing up the textures (esp. evident in faces) and goes back to clear over and over again but not all the time. The original is fine. Anyone know anything else about this?

.....I'm using PowerDVD 5 to play it on the computer and haven't tried the home DVD player yet.

.....just played Reloaded and the backup is perfect. Looks like a bad burn with Matrix; I may have to burn it again. I think I burned Matrix with Nero 6.0.0.0 and Reloaded with Nero 6.3.1.6. This could be the problem.

OK, I finally tried burning The Matrix again using Nero 6.3.1.6 and DVD Shrink 3.1.7 and got the same screwed up burn with the messed up textures going back and forth between clear and blurry. I'm using the Lite-On 851S 4X DVD burner on the Dragonslayer system. I'm pretty much using all the automatic settings in DVD Shrink. I've disabled my virusscan and pop-up blocker before burning. The bizarre thing is Reloaded is a perfect burn. What could I be doing wrong? Is it in the encoding process or actual burn process? Thanks for any help.

I tried again tonight with the same versions and it worked! I followed some instructions here and at CDFreaks forum (which I might join soon) about converting menus and extras to still images and stuff like that and I went from about 40-50% compression to about 80% compression. Anyway, I'm back on the backup track and will install the new DVD Shrink version when I need it (i.e. - newer movies). 8)
