Monte, that you think that advice I gave you was not positive tells me you are doomed in dating until you do understand what I have told you. Good luck on another 4000 posts of failing relationship updates.

Ian, how can something that funny be inappropriate? I think any time you can correctly use the phrase "drain nuts" is an appropriate time.

P.S. Ian, does this mean my recommendation that he goes for the flying camel would be wholly inappropriate?

I don't thinhk it was your advice that was bad, but more how you presented it.

Hox, dolph,

How as it presented? Tell me. The first part was clearly and most definitely a joke based on things he has said in the past. The second part was a statement that was not judgemental and true. There was literally nothing out of line with it. Then he has the audacity to post his personal life yet again on an internet forum and attempts to dictate what the responses will be when he doesn't particularly like it. The second post was also a statement of fact. If he can't grasp how created drama can ruin attempts at relationships, he is going to fail at them. And then he is going to post it here. He may try to dictate what the responses are, but he doesn't have any authority to dictate what the responses will be. It is completely ridiculous, i.e. worthy of ridicule.

A forum may be for people of common interest. This doesn't mean that anyone can post inane pieces that don't make sense and then decide what other's responses will be be. If you post a belief without support, if you post the details of your personal life with extreme reactions that don't make sense, there is no reason that any one should have to refrain from posting their own thoughts on the matter. This is kind of the point of a forum, to prompt a response and gain insight and information. Whether or not that response is positive is a chance you take when you post.

JamieW,

If by now you cannot see how your posts antagonize others, then nothing I or anyone else can say will be able to show you either. Sorry.

Oh, I see how they antagonize them. But they are minor antagonizations that yield a disproportionate response yet I don't see you chastising them.

Some of the hypocrisy of some of you is sickening. You claim to be above this or offended then you participate and tell me how wrong I am. Hox and dolphin, your hypocrisy here is overwhelming. You cast a judgement and tell me what to do then when your "observation" is challenged, you politely refuse to answer.

Jonathan, you don't need us to be proud of you. Some of us, despite our harsh words, do wish you well. But our approval isn't what you should be seeking. Instead, you should be seeking to understand yourself and what motivates your decisions, learning how to respect both yourself and others, figuring out how you can truly make yourself happy, discovering how to cultivate a lasting, meaningful, equal relationship, and finally deciding what you can do to leave this world a better place than when you entered it.

One way to help do all this is to get out there and meet different people, see different places, try different activities and experience the variety of what life has to offer. You are young, you have much to learn, and you have time to learn it. Take advantage of that time, don't rush in, explore many options, and for heaven's sake just enjoy yourself!

So, am I proud of you? It doesn't matter one whit. What does matter is that you are beginning to take some steps to broaden your horizons. For your own sake, not ours, keep it up! :)

I'm guessing that he isn't seeing the animation of your (former?) avatar anymore. To address that question, Slim, I am still seeing it. Are you seeing any animations now? Have you disabled animations in your broswer? Did you recently install any web washer/proxy software?

I couldn't put it better myself cfitz, but I'll try

You see MonteLDS, life isn't about pleasing your parents, your peers or your associates, It's about living. Whether any of us here, even those of us you may respect, are proud of you or not, should not really change how you handle your own life. Now how in situations where you find a lot of people disagreeing with you, you may want to take a moment to re-evaluate your own course of action, and see if things are really going the way you want them to. The fact is, none of us here are going to be living with your decisions, only you are, and the people they directly affect. We can offer you our opinions, some of which may be useful, and which might not be... but that is all they are: Opinions.

For instance, when I hit 18 years old, my mother had a very hard time letting go of being in charge of me. We ended up having some disagreements over how certain things in my life should be done. She told me straight out what I was going to do, whether I liked it or not. Then I looked her straight in the eye and said "I appreciate your opinion, and will take it into consideration when I make my own decision". In all honesty, I can't remember if I did what she said or not, but the fact is, since then, she has given me her opinions instead of telling me what to do, and sometimes I do what she suggests, and sometimes I don't, and sometimes she is right, and sometimes I am. But *I* live with the consequences. My mother and I have a much better reliationship now really. We have mutual respect, and we treat each other as adults, and friends.

So next time you feel the need to proove something about yourself to someone, remember who's really gonna be living with your choices. I'm sure none of us mind giving you our opinions, but always remember that that is all they are, and you have to make your own conclusions.

As it happens, I know what it's like to want to proove yourself to those around you. If you had met me 3 years ago, you would not recognize me for who I am today.

Good luck!

cfitz,

Yes, that is what I was referring to as wiggling: the motion in his avatar. Oh well, I can't thing of anything that I've disabled. However, I installed a router a while back and have been having some sporadic issues. As sporadic, I can't correlate the phenomena.

With respect to your latest advice to Monte: You ARE better than Dr. Laura!

D_Rex,

You, too, are better than Dr. Laura.

Monte: Listen to those two!

Mission accomplished, dolphinius_rex. Well put. I do have one quibble, on which we probably actually agree but you didn't express. You told Jonathan that "none of us here are going to be living with your decisions, only you are, and the people they directly affect." I understand the point you were trying to make to Jonathan, as it is the same point I was trying to make. However I think we should also add that, despite the importance of living one's own life, no life is lived in a vaccuum and thus one should not live his life without any regard for the consequences to others.

Jonathan's (and other's) actions can and do end up affecting the rest of us. To make up an extreme example, if Jonathan decided to live his life by sticking up convenience stores for an occupation and impregnating and then abandoning a new woman every month for recreation, then the rest of us most definitely would be living with his decisions and suffering the consequences thereof. We, as a society, do have a perfectly valid, although not all-encompassing, interest in how Jonathan and anyone else conducts his or her life.

Adhering to the principal of "to thine own self be true" is not the same thing as blithely ignoring the consequences of one's actions and the impact they have on others and society as a whole.

You know, I was a little worried about sounding that way when I wrote it, but decided to leave it in in the end. I'm glad you brought it up, and I deffinatly do agree with you! :)

Hehe, actually you're right. My fascination with dolphins started about 2 years ago or so... and I still don't even know why. I used to be "Screaming_Sloth", and then later changed to Matrix... but after the movie came out I had to change it to Enzo_Matrix since everyone though I had stolen it from the movie ( ). Eventually I decided I needed a new persona, and I used my previous Latin studies to come up with Dolphinius_Rex, which later became Lord_Dolphin, and eventually The Digital Dolphin as I became more and more obsessed with digital media. I considered for a time calling myself the Digital Versatile Dolphin, or D.V.D. but I thought it'd be too corny

And that's the story of my life  ....well, no not really... but you get the idea :P
