Good question about the model number and firmware version; in situations like this, I take a look at the current firmware of the drive. For example, if your LTN526D has a current firmware of YH0K, YS0E, YS0F, YS0G, OU0J, or YS0J, then you know that falls under the LTN526S, therefore the next progression would be YS0N. If the drive has a current firmware of YH0X then you know that falls under the LTN526. I realize this is a crude way to figure out which drive you have, but it usually works. Note, I said usually. As I mentioned before, if there are no visible problems with the drive, then don't upgrade the firmware. No action, in this case, is the safest action.
