In House Review - Lite-On LVW-5005 'All Write' DVD Recorder

A few weeks ago we took a look at Lite-On's first stand alone DVD recorder, the LVW-5001. This affordably priced DVD recorder impressed us with the number of features it offered as well as its ease of use. Today, we bring you a review of the LVW-5001's big brother, the LVW-5005. This new DVD recorder has all of the features found on the LVW-5001 and then some. Featuring Lite-On's new All Write technology, the LVW-5005 can write to both DVD-R/RW and DVD+R/RW media and is the first stand alone DVD writer with the ability to record audio and video directly to CD. This new DVD recorder also includes things like a built in TV tuner, progressive scan output, and a front mounted DV Link input connection. Of course, this is only a taste of what the LVW-5005 has to offer.

I already envy you because you have it and I don't.

If these people are your friends, tell them to showcase all their products in the Indian market. They have a few dealers but they only sell CD-ReWriters.

on a dvd... on ...say a lite-on 411s.......
which it does......................


1.0 ) can these files be read and played as audio.. on the 5005...
I am assuming that the 1000 number is a limit ....if this is so......

ie archived mp3s saved to DVD... on the 411s...
then place the DVD into the 5005. will it see the list (?up / over 100 files)
and PLAY THEM...
is there control over sort... order etc?..........

also
2.0) can this machine 5005. record them onto the dvd..
as data files......... LIKE A 411s DOES....................

3.0) is there a standard to make a DVD audio disk........

please address each item by number so as to avoid confusion

>> They are in alphabetical order. To navigate between tracks, you use the Next and Previous buttons. You cannot select them by track #.

OK, it took a little longer than I expected to post these, but here they are. Everything was recorded using the built in TV tuner. For the DVD media, the quality was set to HQ.

Memorex 4x DVD+R (Ricoh):


Memorex 4x DVD-R (CMC):

Bundled 4x DVD+RW (Mitsubishi):


Ricoh 4x DVD+RW (Ricoh):


VCD (Fuji/Taiyo):


VCD (Memorex/CMC):


SVCD (Memorex/CMC):


As you can see, not all of the results were optimal. The PI/PO errors were very high with the bundled disc. I also saw a few C2 errors when burning VCD's. I reran that test about 10x with various media and saw errors on every disc. This doesn't seem to have any effect on playback. However, this isn't something you want to see. Sorry.. I just didn't have time to test audio CD quality.
