I think I just found my new hard drive!

400GB 7200 RPM! Sweet. Of course, their 10,000RPM 300GB drive is a LOT bigger than the WD Raptor and just as fast!

Yeah, but it's made by Hitachi, who took over IBM's Digital Storage business. I never liked IBM hard drives, and I won't unless Hitachi can prove they are just as fast, just as durable, and just as good as the next guy's. Once they can prove all of the above, they still would have to send me a free drive so I can test it out. I wouldn't spend my money on one of their drives when I can spend it on another brand that already has my trust. Brand loyalty, that's what it's all about, folks. It won't be long until Maxtor, WD, and Seagate announce 400GB drives.

400 GB is really huge.Do you have that much data to store on that HDD?I doubt.. :wink:

Now hoxlund, on the other hand, I'm sure he could fill up a 400 GB drive without even breaking a sweat... :-?

funny thing is all my drives together add up to 440. i would love it on one drive.. well not really, cause if that baby crashed i would too

400 gb is not really that much data. I have 730 gbs in my system now. (3 Maxtor 160's 1 WD 250). Now what is bothering me is the transfer rates of these drives. I test them in SiSoft Sandra and they top out around 25-26 mb /sec sustained. According to SiSoft thats slow. I have tried new cables and new controller cards all with the same results. I want a fast drive damnit. All 4 of mine are 8meg and 7200 RPM.BTW I use O&O defrage constantly due to reencoding backups :)

wicked1,why dont you use SCSI adapters and Seagate Cheetah 15K RPM drives? :wink:

simply the cost. I would love to have a complete SCSI setup.I converted all of my opticals to firewire for a big performance increase. Thought about raid but cant justify "wasting" the space as I really use all that I have. I run out of room daily.

Wish they made a bigger mobile drive than 60GB 7200rpm/8MB as well... guess they will soon :wink:

I've got well over 400 GB's. I'd like their 300GB, 10,000 RPM drive...but it's still an IBM.

I perfer Western Digital; now, if they came out with a Raptor that had a decent size I'd be really happy.
Soon to be proud user of Mandrake 10 (again!). SuSE 9 sucks!

I guess you are right about brand loyalty.I have used Seagate and will stick to them.I wont go in for Samsung,who give 3 year warranty on their HDD's.
By the way,anybody here uses Samsung?I have never seen HDD's other than Seagate,Samsung and Maxtor.
