Epson R300 Printer

Fairly related to the site, as it does print directly to CD's and DVD's. I love it, quality printed onto disks is amazing, and very simple to use. Text quality is amazing too, crystal clear, nice and sharp.

how does it work ?
does it come with special software for designing the labels and printing to the CDs ?

yeah, how does this work? do you stick the disk in the side, or feed it through like a normal piece of paper? do you know if the Canon i560 can do this?

The printer comes with special software to print to the CD, yes. Called Epson Print CD.

As for designing the labels, I couldn't tell you, I just get all my labels off the internet and print them on the CD.

I actually just ordered 50 RITEKG04 Inkjet Printable disks from meritline, nice stuff!

You put a little tray into a place on the printer whenever you want to print to a CD, and the printer automatically switches into CD/DVD mode.

Is that the model with the individual ink cartridges? I wouldn't mind getting one of those...

Any idea if it (the cd printing) works under Linux? (Sorry...had to ask)

Yes, it uses 5 different cartridges, pretty nice if I may say so myself. I'm starting to like the idea. CD printing under Linux, geez, you'd have to google it I'd suppose. I suppose someone MAY have made drivers and software for the cd printing, but it's not officially supported I don't think.

i like the idea of 2 cartridges, your not always chasing an empty cartridge

also the print head is on the HP cartridge, everytime you change the cartridge your changing the printhead

1. Problem with only 2 cartridges (black and a tri-color) Is that when you run out of one color, you have to buy a new cartridge (average color cart. is about say $20-$25 for HP, and don't bring me how you get them for free...

2. I also like the idea of changing the printhead everytime you change the cartridge, but, oh well. The R300 does have a cleaning tool which could come in handy at some point I suppose.

3. As far as always hunting down a cartridge, with the ink levels that come up ever time you print (almost standard nowadays) you just buy a new cartridge when it shows you as running low, that's what I'll be doing, and the cartridges are pretty cheap, and I'll just be typing it into Amazon, hit the order button, it's on the way to my house, and it'll be at my house before my ink runs out.

one thing id like to know is how much ink is in those t044 series cartridges, as far as i know HP is the only one that tells you how much ink is in the cartridge

also usually people use ink regularly, not all one color

I plan on getting the R200, it's selling for $139.99 at London Drugs and prints to CD/DVD as well and has 6 individual ink tanks. I need to upgrade my scanner first though. I can't make up my mind whether to buy the Canon 3200F or the Epson Perfection 1670. Right now I'm running a Canon S520 and A Canon Canoscan N650U.

but i can't complain at all, i got it free

Man it's true what they say better to be born lucky than rich. I do a lot of scanning and though my little cheap Canon does a reasonable job I'd really like to see what a better scanner will do.

I'd recomend a Visioneer scanner. It is the only scanner manuf. I have ever had, and liked, I also had a Microtek that I hated. Visioneer all the way.
