Problems with ASUS 12X DVD ROM

It sometimes get recognised incorrectly in the bios. There is no problem with the bios though.

When this happens, the drives starte misbehaving.

Where can the problem lie?

Check the IDE cable first.

ASUS DVD ROM problem

Bang On Sir!

There was no problem with the cable, but one IDE pin of the drive was pushed in and was probably was mot making contact with the cable.
I think this could have happened if sombody (more than one people use this drive) tried to force the cable the wrong way. So the pin block at the centre of the cable pushed the pin back.

Any way, 'IDE' was the clue you gave me. I thank you for that.
