Plextor PX-504A

Postby MSX on Tue Mar 11, 2003 4:22 pm

Was considering buying the plextor burner. Any thoughts? Any reviews of it yet? if not any idea when it will get tested?

I have one right now... I am trying to get it to work with an Addonics SCSI-to-IDE converter at the moment so I can't give you a lot of information on the performance. One thing I should mention that was a disappointment to me is that the drive is in fact an NEC-1100A and not made by Plextor.

It's not a total rebadge of the ND-1100. It has a black tray and Plextor's PoweRec.

Thanks Implicit, I was afraid it was just a repacked NEC.

I emailed both Plextor sales and support but as you can imagine... no response =)

I think I may sell my PX-504A for a DRU-500AX... my IDE-to-SCSI converter supports the 500AX but I've not had much luck with the Plextor as of yet.

plextor 504A

I have my plextor 504 since last thursday and I'm veeeery satisfied. I have been using it with nero, dvd x copy, vob instant copy, ifoedit, DVD decryptor.. I've tried every possible format, dvd and cd and I have burned movies, dvd backups, music cd's and not one problem. Even cheap media...Every dvd movie I have burned has also not given me any problems with my Sony Home DVD player.. Only the ripping sucks so I bought a dvd-rom player just for ripping. For me this is plextor quality as always even that it's a Nec 1100A underneath.. I personally have nothing bad to say about this drive. And what are people all wanting a + and a - compatible burner. Are you going to burn half your dvd's on + and the other half on -? Once you get the right settings, software and media you will always keep burning the same output anyway... Does it really matter. In a year the burner will be outdated and you will probably have to buy another one... Buy one now, enjoy the moments and next year is another story!

Sometimes you can get one type of media easier or cheaper then the other.
Also it's nice to be able to support all posibilities, your stuff might work with one type great but you families stuff might want another.
I have gear that can support both types, but not always, depending on what I'm burning, the file types, and the method used.
And a lot of us just like to have the latest toys to play with anyways if we can afford it ;)
