please recommend software

I just received my shiny new LG 4040B DVD Multi Drive, and I need some suggestions on what software to use. The drive comes with B's clip and recorder gold, which I've heard is sufficient but not very robust. I would appreciate suggestions for DVD ripping/burning/copying software. TIA. :)

P.S. Sorry if this is the wrong forum for this, haven't posted here much and I just noticed the "Software" section...ooops.

Personally, I like DVDShrink and Nero. Sometimes I'll use RecordNow.

Actually I have Nero, but it's a stupid bundled version which only has eyes for my Lite-on 48x CD burner; it will not recognize the new LG drive (or any other drive) as a recorder. Any possibility of unlocking this?

You'll have to purchase a serial number from Nero to unlock the software to work with other optical drives. But, you will not have to pay full price.

OK, I also have Smartripper. Assuming I get a new serial and get Nero to function with my recorder, will Smartripper and Nero suffice to make DVD backups?

Nero will let you do DVD backups once you give it the new serial number. I use DVDShrink to compress the movies to make them fit to a single DVD. Then, with Nero I back the compressed move files to a DVD.

Have not used Smartripper before.

Nero + DVDShrink. It'll work for every movie :)

Plus, DVDShrink is free! Can't beat that!

Thanks for the suggestions. Looks like DVD Shrink is pretty popular. I'll give it a try.

If you look for instructions (google etc.) for Prassi Primo DVD, they are most likely also applicable to RecordNow Max, since that is what it was based on.

Maybe it's not bad to master the fundamentals because it will be applicable for any recording app. Also you will keep the waste of any media limited if you do the tests/experiments with RW media.

Good luck.
