Pioneer DVR-212BK VS Plextor 760A VS LG H54L

Postby blake on Tue May 15, 2007 1:40 am

After doing a lot of reading, I am still at a loss as to which internal DVD burner is currently the best out there.

Important to me is media compatability, DVD read speed, and DVD+DL burn speed/support. SATA vs EIDE doesn't matter as I understand there is no real life performance difference.

Narrowed down to:

Pioneer DVR-212BK SATA
Plextor 760A (any work on 800A yet?? NO REVIEWS!)
LG GSA-H54L

Any comments or other suggestions?

The PX-800A is based on the Sony NEC Optiarc AD-7170A. I don't think Plextor made many changes so if you can find a review of the AD-7170A (try CD Freaks), you'll know what to expect from the PX-800A.

That said and the fact that PlexTools is not supported on the PX-800A, if you are considering it, the only reason to get it over the AD-7170A is if you simply wish to spend more money. If it was me, I'd consider the LG. I have an LG GSA-H22N, it is outstanding, I also have a Pioneer DVR-212D, and it too has some great features. In addition I own a Plextor PX-755SA. These are all in one of my systems.

My point is different drives have different strengths. It depends on what you intend to do with it/them.
