Is My Pioneer A05 Supposed to read +R/+RW? Because it does..

Postby panicinyearzero on Sun Jun 29, 2003 9:41 pm

I thought the Pioneer A05 coud only read and write to -R/-RW disks? But a +R disk I made on a TDK burner plays on it. Is it supposed to? Thanks for helping out.

Yah, the Pioneer DVR-105 can read +R/RW discs. It only writes -R/RW though.

It would have been REALLY nasty of Pioneer to not make it compatible with +R/RW media! Having two major recordable formats is pain enough without playback incompatabilities
Punch Cards -> Paper Tape -> Tape Drive -> 8" Floppy Diskette -> 5 1/4" Floppy Diskette -> 3 1/2" "Flippy" Diskette -> CD-R -> DVD±R -> BD-R

Well, I guess... they should be compatible with either format...

I have a Plextor PX-504A, which is a +R/+RW only drive, and it reads -R/-RW media as well...

Thanks for helping out. I looked on Pioneers own website, and saw no listing in the specs for +R/+RW playback. It may have been an oversight, or maybe they just don't want to mention the + format at all. By the way, I got a chance to try a Panasonic Home DVD Recorder (the kind that replaces the VCR) and it made beautiful recordings on a DVD-RAM disk, which it says can be over-written 100,000+ times.
