I could burn my Memorex RicohJPN discs at 8x in my Nu tech but can only select 4x

Should i use something other than nero?

With the official firmware NO 4x discs may be writtin at 8x - only 8x discs works at 8x.

With the hacked firmware you may write -R discs at 8x, but still not 4x +R at 8x.....so you're locked to 4x on those ricohjpn disc.

Am I right in thinking that getting the 8x for all with +R media on the Pioneer is not straightforward?

Pity if so, I have a load of Ritek/Ricoh 4x and some 2.4x media that should work at 4x here... ho hum.

Hacked FW does coasters with my LG (LG04) media, even at rated speed.
At 6x or 8x Nero and othe programs, cdspeed included. Report errors were at LeadIn. At 4x Nero burns 100% but when check began it didnt recognize the disc.

FW 1.09 burns them well.

Now I'll try with 1.10.
Ciao,
macgirl.

Tired of hackintoshes and went with the real deal.
