Overburn with Nero ?

Postby Svekke on Thu Jan 01, 1970 3:28 am

Hi,

I'm using Nero 5.5.1.8 and a Plextor 12x10x32A :( to create a data cd. The amount of data is 703 MB, so I grabbed one of my 80min Philips Silver Premiums and thought that these extra 3 MBs wouldn't cause me problems :o
However, when I started the burn-process Nero immediately told me there wasn't enough space,... bla bla bla !
Then I looked up some info on the web about this and learned to know about overburning :-?
I changed the preferences in Nero ... Enable overburn to 82min, turned off multisession in order to be able to select disc at once !
I then retried burning, but still Nero came up with the same message :(

Can anyone please help me out with this ?

Thanks ... Svekke

In Nero, in the Write dialog, make sure that the Finalize CD box is checked (as well as Disk at Once). If it is not checked, this may be preventing the overburn choice dialog from appearing.

You can find out the approximate overburning capacity for a given type of CDR blank with CD Speed (in Nero Tools). Run the Extra | Overburning Test. It will give you the overburn capacity without writing to the blank CDR.

See my webpage link in my profile.

Set up your red Marker & Maximum cd length to 83 minutes.
Plextors are notorious for not overburning well.

I designed it for overburning audio, but it works for data too.

Thanks for your advice :D , but I tried all this without success :(

No multisession, DAO, finalize, enable overburn, overburn capacity and red marker to same value, ... Nero keeps telling me that "there isn't enough space ..." to burn a lousy 703 MB on a 80 min CDR !

I tried it with 3 types of CDRs, each with the same result !

What I still can do is upgrade the firmware of my Plextor and get me a newer version of Nero.

I just upgraded to Nero 5.5.9.0 and still no success :(

Is it normal that after the burn process fails, "Finalize" is unchecked and "Track at Once" is selected again in the "Burn" tab of my compilation info ?

"No multisession, DAO, finalize, enable overburn, overburn capacity and red marker to same value."

At the risk of sounding redundant:
1) You have checked enable over burn.
2) You have set the Maximum CD Length to the same as your Red marker.

3) You set the RED marker on the General Tab to about 83 Minutes.

You're making an ISO 9660 Data Disc.
You're selecting DAO & finalize disc.

When you hit the burn button, check your settings again in the window!

Are you getting the Write Overburn CD window as displayed on my web page ? You should be.

Remember: my page is for overburning audio. But the process is pretty much the same for data.

Hi,

Yes, I made all the selections as you described, but I don't get the "Overburn Writing" dialog :-?

Also the "Write CD" dialog looks different in my case, I don't have this "Write" button.
I access this dialog through file -> compilation info !
Can this be because I'm creating a data CD iso of an audio CD ?

Thanks again ... Svekke

Yes, this is undoubedly the reason that you are having a problem. :o There is no such thing as a data CD ISO of an audio CD. :-?

If you are copying an audio CD, use the CD Copy function, not CD-ROM (ISO).

Alternatively, to add CD Text or create a custom compilation, use the Audio-CD function.

The CD-ROM (ISO) function is for data recording only, and will not work with audio CD's. Audio CD's use an entirely different format and sector size than data CD's. 8)

Actually, it is a DATA CD I'm creating !

On the web you find lots of info for overburning audio CDs (thanks Spazmogen) with Nero, but not for overburning data CDs :(

I cannot imagine that this is not possible :-?

i don't understand what you mean by "data CD iso of an audio CD".
you were making a data CD then?

Spazmogen, are your instructions good for overburning data CDs too?

From the symptoms you describe, it sounds like your problem is being caused by using the Nero Wizard. The Wizard will not allow you to overburn, and has a default setting for Track at Once with the Finalize CD box unchecked. :(

Turn off the Wizard by selecting the Close Wizard button, and then go back to the Write CD dialog and select Finalize CD and Disk at Once. You will then have the same Write dialog as in Spazmogen's example. Hit Write and you will be given a choice to overburn the CD.

The Plextor PX-W121032A works fine for overburning up to its capacity of 89:59. I overburn with mine constantly with no problems whatsoever. As long as you don't exceed the capacity of the CDR as determined by CD Speed, you won't have a problem. You can set the File | Preferences | Expert Features | Maximum CD Length to the CD Speed overburn capacity of the CDR blank.

Turn off the Wizard, and you should be back in business. :D

Nero Wizard: he's right-turn it off. I never use it.

I've seen Nero take 5 or 10 seconds to display the overburn window after it's displayed the compilation is too big to fit on cd error window.

I too am creating a data CD that exceeds 700MB, and I've followed all of the steps that you guys have mentioned but I get the same message about how the medium doesn't have enough memory to burn the CD.

Any ideas? Thanks

How big is the file you want to burn?
How big is the cd-r you're burning to?
Are you using Nero or some other software?

OK, so I don't use the wizard, and everything else is set up as you guys have instructed, but when the compilationg is too big to fit on cd error window pops up, it just ejects the blank CDR, and no overburn window pops up. Help, anyone? Please? Thanks.

if U turn DAO burning then overburning MUST pop-up.

If U burn TAO then later U have TAO,
the same is with DAO.

On the list menu when burning first choice is TAO, be careful.
I would have the same problems until I notice that 8)

Yes, it should work for data cd's as well.
The Expert Features & General tabs need to be set up. I was using a 99 minute cd in my example. For an 80 minute disc, try setting them up for 83 minutes.

Just make sure you burn in Disc At Once (DAO).

I've found I can put about 10mb extra on a 700mb disc without trouble.
