it looks like pioneer is stopping their sale of internal drives based off the pricing of their internal drives dramatically increased in a short time

And their older gen models are also drastically increased in price (prob stock issues) from their msrp.

Here’s the Japanese pioneer website showing all of their discontinued models, including ...

DVD/1080p BD movies via JRiver on Z Book Laptop Fee

I need to decide on an external BD burner drive to clone a very rare and OOP DVD movie. But I will also want that drive for sharing DVD/BD movie play duties with my Oppo 95 BD player, where the Oppo feeds the s-video input of my 32” Toshiba CRT TV in my bedroom with a pair of nice DIYed floor standing speakers with 15” woofers.

LOL, but I like the CRT’s high contrast ratio ...

LG BH16NS40 1.05 Firmware Will Brick Your Drive

I've been doing some media testing lately and was excited to see that, after years of no updates, LG had released the 1.05 firmware for the BH16NS40. Thinking that LG could release a new firmware without screwing it up, I went ahead and flashed my drive.

This was a big mistake as it no longer recognizes any discs. I did some research online and I'm not alone. ...

Pioneer BD Drive Models with Best CD read/ripping?

I've heard lots of positives about Pioneer Blu-Ray drives. They might be a bit more expensive but many say they are uncommonly reliable and better than most at reading troubled CDs. Others say they are overrated; ymmv, I guess.

It probably sounds silly but before I finally have Microcenter build me a custom desktop for speedy 1080p video editing, I’d prefer to use one of these new Pioneer drives in a Dell Dimension 8300; Windows ...

Sony BWU-500S Desktop Blu-Ray drive Won’t Read

About this drive https://www.cdrinfo.com/d7/content/sony ... ew?page=35
http://www.cdrlabs.com/reviews/sony-bwu ... tures.html , I have the BWU-500S, serial # 1007338L411. Though it’s 10 year old it’s gotten very little use, so how likely that any optical or electromechanical parts would be defective with such infrequent use? I have it installed in an ancient Dell Dimension 8300, Windows XP Pro SP2. The pc runs fine and I ...

New modified LG drive with BD-R XL scanning WH16NS48DQ

There's a new drive, modified by Vinpower, that supports scanning of BD-R XL discs using Plextools Lite:

Image

The model number is: Vinpower LG BH16NS48DQ aka WH16NS48DUP-QS
Image

Yss from Japan has already analyzed/reviewed it at:

http://yss.la.coocan.jp/wh16ns48dq/wh16ns48dq_top.htm

It is meant for North and South American markets, but funnily enough I've only been able to find it for sale in Japan (and the seller does NOT ship outside Japan).

If ...

Lite-On/PLDS Stops Making Blu-ray Drives

If the lack of new models wasn't a big enough hint, I heard from a reliable source today that Lite-On has stopped making Blu-ray drives. The only exception is the drive for the Xbox which Lite-On manufactuers.

Lite-On isn't totally out of the optical drive game though. According to the roadmap I saw, the company will be introducing updated 16x (DH-16D8SH) and 18x (DH-18D8SH) DVD-ROM drives this fall as well as new 16x and 24x ...

External optical drives and Win 8.1

Apologies in advance for my ignorance here, but I have not been able to have some basic questions answered through a lot of Google searching. Most mainstream sites seem to treat optical drives as something not worthy of their time and assume that they are almost an anachronism.

I just ordered a new desktop not equipped with an optical drive of any kind and running windows 8.1 I assumed that picking up an external drive ...
