Now we'll have to wait for a freed version so that PxScan will work...

I haven't checked there, but the link at QPxTool seems to be down at present.

I didn't see such a link and can't find it now.

EDIT: Amazing timing! It was just posted here at CDFreaks.

Direct download link (you may have to dismiss an overlay window and a popup).

This is the BIN version of the firmware, so you'll need the Plextor firmware flasher also, e.g. one of these.

Thanks for the follow-up. The popup is very annoying, but the link works!

Interesting-- I wonder if this fixes how poorly MAP6-hub-coded Verbatim DVD-Rs burn on the Plex...

That seemed to be more of a batch to batch issue, especially with discs made a while back. I haven't seen any particularily bad MAP6 discs in a while though. Are you still having significant problems?

For those unfamiliar with Plextor firmware unlocking procedure:

1. Download original fw.
2. Extract contents (winzip/winrar, etc)
3. Download unlocked firmware
http://qpxtool.siteboard.de/qpxtool-about24.html
(backup direct url: http://de.geocities.com/linux_piewie/do ... 8Xrpc1.bin )
4. Put new firmware inside extracted folder (containing pxfirm3.exe and plexfirm.ini)
5. Edit plexfirm.ini. Change the line:

FirmwareFileName=p760107f.bin

to :

FirmwareFileName=1_08Xrpc1.bin

(assuming you are using unlocked firmware linked to above).

6. Start pxfirm3.exe. Flash away. Reboot. Enjoy command unprotected / RPC1 firmware

If this post is in violation of something Plextor is touchy about, Ian can delete this.

I saved a copy of this procedure for myself. Had to relearn it since the previous time. Old brains... :)
