How fast is too fast?

NEC DVD ROM drives

When I finally build my new PC I am planning to install a DVD-ROM drive in it (black). Just like to know if anybody has had any experience with NEC DVD-ROM drives and if so how do you compare them to other brands. Also in terms of quietness as well.

The last NEC DVD-Roms I saw were rebadged Liteon-drives, fast and loud
