Ok, well I used up my 50 pack spindle of "Accus" from CDRDVDRMEDIA yahoo store so I purchased a 100 pack. In they come. Right off the bat I notice that the rim is more opaque and there are small 'bubbles' (?) in the rim. Also the purple data side is much lighter in color and the discs read as "Sony" vs "Lead Data". They burn fine at 2x, no problems (burned 1 DVD-Video at 1x, one DVD-Video at 2x and one DVD Data at 2x). The video ones were burned with DvdDecrypter 3.1.4.0 and the Data disc w/Nero 5.5.10.0. (Sony-DRU 500a 1.0f)
ALL the Lead Data discs burned fine, filling them to the brim using DVD2one to backup some movies and some with data. Their corresponding Nero CD speed graphs look fine all the way to the end. However, the Sony discs look fine *UNTIL* about 3.9 gigs or so, then they drop down and bounce between 3x-7x (while before they were smooth parabolas at about 8x). SOOO
I purchased a 5 pack of Maxell 2.4x DVD+R and also checked out some of my Memorex 2.4x DVD+R to see what they looked like. Those too exhibited the SAME symptoms, while the Lead Data discs were fine to the end. Is this a DVD-ROM problem?? (LiteOn 163) is it having difficulty with the edges of some of the burned discs? The DRU-500a had no problems reading the "Sony" discs to the end, albeit its max read rate was 4x....but it was SMOOTH to the end with no interruption. All the discs play fine in my Samsung-511 standalone. I have a 5 pack of Apple DVD-R's (16.03 $US shipped) on the way which has been rec'd by many people for quality discs.
Any thoughts or suggestions? I find it weird that all the +R's exhibit the same symptoms in my DVD-ROM. (I tried to burn one at 1x to see if there was any diff, but for some reason it burned at 2x...oh well). The data disc ("Sony" DVD-R) I burned has troubles playing the divx that's at the edge of the disc, and takes 2x as long as usu to copy the file to my hdd (no errors however). My Sony DRU has no problems playing the divx at the edge and copies it over fine...tho at 4x (2x for dvd-video)... ??? I only have 15 days before I have to return the discs if I decide to send them back (less actually cuz I think they need to receive them in 15 days).
Now if it is concluded that the media sucks...what media works WELL that is a good quality, DVD-R (or +R). I'm willing to pay about $3.00/disc , I'm sick of the cheap ones, but would go as low as like $2.00 /disc if they were in 50 packs or 100 packs. 2x is fine.
