Maxell 4x dvd-r made in Taiwan

DVD-R/W, DVD+R/RW, DVD-RAM

Shimman: *VERY* unlikely.... it's *MUCH* more likely the wrapper was screwed up... this has happened before with Maxell, so it's not unprecidented.

pchilson: Well, I need to see the discs first... I still haven't personally seen them. I've gotten the person who does have the discs to look at them, and so far they do *NOT* sound like Ritek, so I'm crossing my fingers that they are really TY discs, with a mislabelled wrapper. This would make me much happier then I am now. But I'm still not sure, so I'm not holding my breath or anything.

I will continue to keep people up to date with posts here. One way or the other, I will have SOME sort of idea what's happening tomorrow.

dolphinius_rex,

I'm glad you talked to them. That's pretty shocking that Maxell in North America didn't know about this. It sounds like they were shocked.

Thank you for telling them to stop oursourcing from Taiwan for me :D

Japan Maxell and Ty media are awesome :D

That was cool that Maxell offered to take them back.

Hopefully you will find out who makes the Taiwan discs you have. Hopefully they are just mislabeled Taiwan and have Maxell, or Ty media in them.

If they are really Taiwan media, I would send them back, but I bet you probably will if they really are Taiwan made media. Shimman got a mislabled one. That would be wierd if 300 packs of 50 packs of Maxell dvd-r were mislabled though.

Thank you for going to keep us updated.

I wouldn't trust them completely yet. It'll probably take at least six months to see it realized (until there's no Taiwan made disc in inventory).

 I think I was "first" one to talk about Japanese companies outsourcing optical media production to Taiwan. :D

Ok, I have some of the discs "in hand" now, and I can confirm that they ARE Ritek of some variation (likely G04, but possibly M02). I had been hoping and hoping that MAYBE they were just packaged in Taiwan, but nope...

Ok, so now two options remain. 1 helluva discount from Maxell, or 15,000 RMA #'s....

I wonder which one Maxell will choose?

so here I am on Monday evening... and I STILL don't have a resolution!! So either they decide to drop the price tomorrow, or the discs go back. That's all there is to it.

The next question is, will they be able to get the NEXT order right?

yeah, 15pc and 25pc spindles are often made in Japan for Maxell... 50pc spindles seem to be made in Taiwan for the moment....

this just in:

Maxell has now stated they will *not* be dropping the price to compensate, and will be issueing an RMA number at my request.

Not the way I wanted to see it done

Ludacris! They promise to supply you with made in Japan media, fail to deliver, and then refuse to give you a discount on the cheaper/lower quality media?
I hope you don't back down and that you actually send them all back !
