Liteon 48x24x48x16x-combo

Can anyone tell me if the DVD part of this combo drive is as good as the DVD rom drive XJ-HD166S

I don't really know, but I would be surprised if the Combo was any less good than the DVD-ROM.

Usually, CD-RW drives read CDs better than CD-ROM drives. I wonder if this holds true for Combo drives reading DVDs better than DVD-ROM drives.
