LiteOn 411S on sale at Newegg for $139...Next is 811S

Postby flash on Thu Oct 09, 2003 8:33 pm

It's finally here for sale. I wonder how it will fare?
The OEM version is only $134.99 and the full retail is $139.99.
WOW! Now that is a GOOD price.

Hopefully this 4X + drive will have the same or even better specs like in Ians recent Plextor review. For almost half the price of the Plextor it's going to be a tough competitor in it's category while keeping all DVD drives and media prices going down.

It has similar specs, but doesn't write at 8x. Indeed it is a good price, It's $15 cheaper than what I paid for my LDW-401S when it came out :)

Not a bad deal if your just looking for DVD-Minus, but if your looking for DVD-Plus, the PX-708A would be ideal because it does 8x.

I think this DVD burner is going to appeal to those that really only want DVD-Minus (only god knows who would only use DVD-Minus) because DVD-Minus only drives can not be found anymore.

Well.. not everyone wants to shell out an extra $100, just for 8x DVD+R writing speeds. That's a lot of money for some people, just for one extra feature.

Also, not to mention, that the PX-708A is now a proven good DVD Burner, from reviews from CD Freaks, CDRInfo, and CDRLabs, of course, the review at CDRLabs being the best one of the three. The LDW-411S is a risky drive to buy now, as the PX-708A was a month ago.

Yeah the Plextor may be a good DVD+ drive but it is definately not a dual format so far. So yeah if you like to burn discs that dont read on alot of older equipment but wanna make a fast personal archive the Plextor is great. Why would someone wanna use DVD+ to distribute stuff when it might not work whereas one could burn it in a DVD- format and 99% of the time it will work.

I've never had a problem burning DVD-Minus on my PX-708A, I am using Fuji TY 4x DVD-R burning at 4x. Of course, I have burned maybe twice, as DVD-Minus has lost the war.

I really can't claim to be an expert on which is better plus or minus. Thats why my only choice will be be a burner that supports both
formats. I have to agree with Ians point that the extra hundred dollars
could help me purchase more media or towards a faster unit six months from now. I will be looking forward to a review of this drive. At present the Plextor is the best drive but I'm still on the fence on features/price.

Ian (was it aviationwiz :D j/k) reviewed it already. He gave it a 10. I dont think its a bad drive. I am just mad it wont burn any dvd-r's for me as that almost exclusively what I burn. The 8x on 4x media is very nice for backing up alot of data.

Now the big question.. I was waiting for this drive to become available. I'd like to see some comparisions of it with other popular (Cheap too... )DVD writers, eg the Pioneer DVR-106. I was burned by the 401S, hope this one is better.

I believe his is looking for a review on the Liteon 411S drive.

Liteon drives usually have better media compatibility.

This message is for Ian if your out there:

Do you do product testing for various burners professionally or is it your hobby to test the burners you purchase? The reason I ask is when will
you be able to test the new dual LDW 411S? Your extensive review of the
Plextor 708 was very impressive. All members in this forum should
kick in $.25 to buy you a LiteOn 411S so we all will know it's true
capabilities. LOL!

You'll be waiting awhile. For some reason we still haven't gotten the 411S yet.

Well, your 'German' link is a 'Dutch' link and as a german living very close to the netherlands I can assure you that the quote
'Verwacht wordt dat deze drive medio december op de markt zal verschijnen.'
means that it is expected to arrive on market mid december. Even in dutch december means december and not october :)

Sorry about the language mess up, I'm part of the over 40 crowd that barely speaks English. I read at another web site that the page was in German but I humbly admit my ignorance. Thank you for the translation.
Here is another link describing a possible timetable:
