Lite-On DVD SOHD 16P9S vs. Asus DVD-E616P3?

How fast is too fast?

Lite-On DVD SOHD 16P9S vs. Asus DVD-E616P3?

Strange thing with these drives is that it seems the results that all the tests showed in a previous thread in this section work exactly opposite on my system. The Lite-On is supposed to be better at ripping CDs, but sometimes the Asus will be able to rip a few songs the Lite-On can't on badly scratched or damaged CDs. The Asus is supposed to be better at ripping DVDs, but I have to use the Lite-On when the Asus gives me ripping errors with RipIt4Me. Could (at least the DVD ripping thing) this have anything to do with the fact that the Lite-On is the master and the Asus is the slave? Anything else that might be up? I believe the firmwares for each are the latest as of a year ago. Thank you.

The Lite-On DVD-ROM just freaked out after trying to rip "LOTR: The Two Towers - Part Two" disc with a invalid..........CDB error of some sort. So I tried it in the Asus and it seems to be working fine; although, I did get a "possible dirt on the disc or scratched error" during ripping at one of the stages, but I told it to just continue. Funny thing is that original disc is brand new and never been played as I just opened the box for this special extended version set. Part One ripped fine with the Lite-On. Anyone know what's happening here?

Just for the record, here's the scratched error RipIt4Me log:

The Asus has still been working fine for me and I'll continue to use it for DVD ripping as long as it works! Any ideas on WTF might have happened?

The Asus now seems to be having trouble with scratched DVDs and the Lite-On seems to be ripping them fine. Strange how I keep bouncing between these drives with almost no rhyme or reason. Hmmmmmmmmmmm........................

Back to the Asus and it ripped 10-15 DVDs with no problems.........go figure!? :o :loopy:
