Lightscribe burner, just firmware?

Postby pixi on Mon Dec 19, 2005 2:08 pm

We know that many productors, simply, upgrade firmware to create a new burner model.

It's possible that Benq 1655, LG 4166B, and Liteon 16H5S are the same models not lightscribe with modernized fimware.

Thanks

For BenQ 1620 and 1625 (LS), it was not just an hardware problem.
Crossflashing is possible between the two drives, and is working for CD & DVD burning. But a BenQ 1620@1625 can't do LS due to some hardware part missing.

BUT maybe one of this LG model (4164/4165 or 4167)
is a 4166 with a restricted firmware, who knows ?
Some external LG GSA-2166 are marked 4164 inside and newest ones are marked 4166... :-?

But they are so close in price that the interest of crossflashing seems very low to me.

pixi:

how LS really works, LS burns to label side of LS discs using dvdrw drives dvd burning laser, but and this is big one, all LS drives also have little extra hardware to read the LS media hub index marks, with out this extra laser to read the marks LS does not work as the pictures cant be lined-up on label side.

KenW, do yu know if LabelFlash also have a kind of index so he can position itself accuratly?

LightScribe is more popular yet and I just got a DW6155 but what I like about LabelFlash yet is the protective coating since the drawing is on a special dye 0.6mm under the surface so the quality will remain while LightScribe if you touch the surface and your hand have some stuff on it you may discolor or damage a little the label.

Also LF with the coating gives a clear finish that looks great.

We had Beta and VHS, Blu-Ray and HD-DVD and now LS and LF.

DeltaLima

no, i have no clue about nec's labelflash media.
sorry!

ps:
I think LS will be much better once we see dyes that are not that gold.coffee colour , they could not have picked worse colour combo if they tried.

Id like to see white.grey, or maybe light-blue.grey, even cream.grey, but that gold.coffee has to go.
