iomega 8x4x32 ZipCD 650 rebadged/new firmware upgrades?

I got this drive from a friend saying it was broken. It seems to work but doesn't like most media. Just wondering if I can upgrade the firmware for possible better performance? btw rebadged plextor??

You can download new firmware for your drive at Iomega's web site. They have important instructions of how the firmware should be updated.

From looking at the pictures on Iomega's site, I am pretty sure that this isn't a Plextor. I've seen one of these in a PC, and it looked a lot like my Philips PCRW1208.
