InCD 4.0.1.7 is out

Postby KCK on Mon Jun 30, 2003 5:14 pm

InCD 4.0.1.7 is available for download at www.ahead.de . Since no changelog is given, it's not clear which bugs have been eliminated from among those listed in the InCD 4.0.1.0 thread

http://www.cdrlabs.com/phpBB/viewtopic.php?t=11058

EasyWriteReader is the same as before (v4.0.0.10).

Good to hear that something has been improved, since other serious bugs are still present:

Sorry, David Burg is on Vacation for the next week, so he will not be able to particpate in this forum for a short period.

We will have the changes to InCD 4.0.17 posted on our website very soon.

Not all the bugs reported in this forum and others have been addressed with this latest release as we had to resolve the bugs reported in the order they have been reported in our Database by both OEM's and End Users. But we are working on them. We take all your input very seriously. And we are very glad to have it.

Regards,

Craig

InCD

Postby kaikow on Thu Jul 03, 2003 4:15 pm

InCD 4.0.1.7 is changing the file modification date when a file is either
dragged or copied to a CD-RW.

That's a serious bug.

I've only been using Nero/InCD for a bit under 1 month, but I must say that InCD is one of the buggiest pieces of software I've ever used.

In the interim, I shall prevert, oops, I mean revert to InCD 3.5.24.0.

Would you believe that InCD is denying this is a bug!

Here's the response I got from tech "support":

>Dear valued Customer,
>
>Thank you for your email.
>
>It's not the nero software that is changing the file, before copying
>right-click on the file and select properties and uncheck the box for
>read-only then copy the file to the cd-rw disk.
>
>If you have any further questions please do not hestitate to contact us.

I responded with:

"It is your software that is changing the date.

If I drag a file, be it read-only or not, from 1 hard drive to another,
Windows Explorer does not change the date. Whether a filre is read-only or
not is irrelevant.

InCD 4 has a bug.
InCD 3.5.24.0 has the correct behavior.

I am not the only one who has noticed this."

:o I'm sorry that by error our techsupport denied this is a bug. Of course, I confirm this is an issue of InCD and not an user error. We (engineer) can definitively duplicate this defect and are currently hunting this defect (which is unexpectively more resistant than we thought it would be!! :x ). Unfortunately, for scheedule reason, it is unlikely that we will have it fixed within end-of-this-month update. Although, I truely hope it will be fixed next month.

Thanks for acknowledging the bug and for your efforts to find & kill it. I, for one, appreciate your attention to the information posted in these forums and for the feedback you are providing here. It is very reassuring and helpful, InCD being a utility many of us depend upon for reliable backups. :)

I agree, wholeheartedly.

I've done a lot of software development (we used to call it "programming" a generation ago) and they (Ahead) have my complete understanding.

Thanx for acknowledging the problem.

The email "support" responses have been very unsatisfactory.

As I was incestuously involved in the design and writing of ISO 9660, ISO/IEC 13346 and ISO/IEC 13490 (see http://www.standards.com/HowardKaikow.html] and http://www.standards.com/index.html#Standards], the latter is a bit outdated), I am very sensitive to errors in implementations of my children, i.e., the relevant standards.

I am finding that when I send email to either webmaster@nero.com or retail-support@nero.com, I am getting a response from an individual in the USA.

This individual clearly is not so experienced or needs more training.

The responses have been either incorrect or do not even address the questions I ask.

Should I instead be using the techsuport@nero.com address?
If not, what address gets me to the REAL tech support in Germany.

Ahead needs to either replace or better train the USA tech support.

Hi Kaikow,

Sorry, this is partly my fault. Or I should say mine and Darrick Bady's. We are of course aware of this bug and a number of others with InCD. And I had thought Darrick, who is the US Tech Support Supervisor, had informed our US Tech team of this particular issue, but apparently he has not. I will have him address his team right away and insure this does not occur again.

Sorry for the misinformation provided by our tech's.

Thanx fer the response.

The issue is deeper than just the response about the Date bug.
However, I don't want to muddy this forum with a discussion of the details.

If you wish more info, send me an email message at kaikow@standards.com using your email address and I'll send an example of what I mean.

After a crash on my computer caused by BSPlayer, InCD stopped working properly. Every time I try to add file to any CD-RW it displays:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Cannot copy the file: Files on this CD-ROM drive are read-only.You cannot move or copy files over to this CD-ROM drive.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

In the Properties under InCD tab it has the follwing:

quote:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
MRW disk
UDF v1.02
This device cannot write to the currently inserted disk. For writing please choose a write-capable drive and a compatible disk type.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I try to re-install InCD but it did not help at all.

I've got LiteON LTR-40125S, WinXP SP1 and InCD 4017. Everything has been fine until today. What can it be?
