Imation CD Burn-R Driver Problem

I have an Imation CD Burn-R 4x4x6 bought Oct 01. Fitted with standard drivers as in the Imation kit & as per Ian's review 8/8/01.

2 days ago I started to get a fault with the USB-Atapi driver. Imation Australia helpdesk so far unable to pinpoint cause.
Thought it might be the cable so tried a different (known to be working )cable & same result.
Windows device manager suggests I update the device driver which I did to the July 01 version of m5619.pdr off imation's website.

Question: should I be trying some better still driver eg Acer 1.09 mentioned in your review ? or is the device actually likely busted internally & I should simply replace!

Could you try the drive on another computer? This would help to determine whether the problem is with the drive or the computer.
