How to upgrade Sony DRU-500a firmware

Postby nitewulf on Wed Dec 25, 2002 1:02 am

I'm running Windows XP Pro. Sony's instructions (for the 1.0f update) say explicitly to disable DMA access in windows. Help and support says nothing.
How do I do it? Do I simply go to device manager , eide controllers, primary & secondary, and change device 0 and device1 from DMA to PIO? (you can disable DMA in the cmos for ATAPI devices like cdroms, but you cannot disable DMA for the HD). Is it necessary to disable DMA? I've upgraded Pioneer DVD-A04s and CDR/RW drives w/o ever disabling DMA access.
I'm confused, but don't want to screw up a new burner. Thanks for any help.

That is exactly how to do it. Also, yes it needs to be done for some reason with this firmware update (1.0f). The previous firmware update for the Sony didnt require that step.

Oh and btw, Happy Holidays everyone! It is 3am Christmas morning here but I'm currently stuck at work, 5 more hours to go :)

Make the update in safe mode ( press F5 when windows is starting up )
This is the best way to upgrade your firmware.
