Hey Canadians-where to get Maxell DVD-RAM?

Postby jberry on Mon Sep 15, 2003 2:22 pm

Just got the LG 4040 and love the DVD-RAM. Can't seem to find the Maxell DVD-RAMs though (I am in Ottawa). Anyone have any idea?

Maybe U.S. folks know of a good distributor south of the border?

I know a good place :D

http://www.precisionsound.com/contact.htm

Use the toll free line (in burnaby) between 8:30am-5:00pm (BC Time).

ask for Greg, I'll give you a good price  (Don't worry, I'll ship the DVD-RAMs from our Toronto Office)

and no, you don't want to know about the prices on our CD-R media! they're WAY too high, but the DVD media we carry is good, I just bought a bunch today even, and I'll give you as good a price I can without getting in trouble :D

dolphinius_rex:

I am in Toronto, if I call 416 253-1889 ( Toronto # for Precision Sound ) will I be able to get good pricing on the other types of media as well , Ie. + and - R's and RW's

I just got a spindle of 25 Memorex 4X +R's for $45 + tax at FutureShop, how does that compare to what you might have?

if you call the Precision sound in Toronto, you will get one of their sales reps, so I have *NO* idea what they will quote you. The sales reps have a LOT of price control (which I why I recommend myself). As for the prices, I can't quote you from home, sorry! I have only been there a month, and I don't have all the prices memorized yet... well, I NEVER will have ALL of them, there's way too much stuff!

anyways, just send me an e-mail at my work account:
gneherATprecisionsoundDOTcom (just replace AT with @ and DOT with .)

I got your e-mail, after checking with our costs on DVD+R/W I have to suggest sticking with the Memorex! I guess we just don't have enough demand for DVD+R/RW to warrent purchasing in large enough quantities to be competitive. :(

Although our prices on DVD-R aren't that bad, and the same with Ram.

Sorry I can't post pricing info online, but I'll get in BIG trouble! especially if you ask for the same price from another rep!

that depends on if it is 4.7GB, 2.6GB, 5.2GB, or 9.4GB, and if it is in a cartridge or in a jewel case.

at that price, it is probably 4.7GB in a jewel case, but maybe in a cartridge, and the price isn't bad. I have no idea about the quality of TDK DVD-RAMs though.

Not sure about the capacity. By the way how is Liteon 401 working out I'm leaning towards getting one of those and then selling my DVR-104 and getting a DVR-105 on the cheap. I already have a buyer for my DVR-104 and to be honest I like having a backup drive. If a dual-format fails that's it. If you have a separate +R drive and a separate -R drive and one goes you still have a backup unit to burn with and all 3 of my standalone DVD Players play both formats equally well so that part of the equation isn't a problem. Sure it'll run me a few more bucks but I don't mind.

at this point I would not recommend the LiteON LDW-401s drive. So far I have not been getting very satisfactory burning results, but I'm looking into it further... I should know more in a few days to a week... I just need more time to do testing... lots and LOTS of testing! (not just with that drive, I've got 4 different projects going at once, all of them important!)
