Help with Lite on 48x24x48

Postby MDDrew on Thu Dec 26, 2002 11:55 pm

in Nero (latest version)
it give me a communication failure at any speed.

the jumper on the drive is set to (secondary) master
i have another CDRW thats set to (secondary)slave
i have a Via chipset
800mhz duron
this happens with audio or data
DMA is enabled
DAE works with this drive at reg. speeds
it reads everything

this is the second liteon drive that does this so i think maybe its something on the pc,my other burner burns fine.

It sound to me that Nero is confusing itself with the two burners you have in your system and is probably looking at your drive that's set to slave instead of master, as by rights a CDRW drive should be set to master on the secondary IDE, where as your HDD sits on the Pri IDE.

Connect one of your burners with your HDD and set the HDD to Master and burner to Slave.

Connect the second burner with your CDROM drive and set the burner to Master and the CDROM to Slave.

Re bo the PC and check detection during the POST screen or after boot up. Once loaded, go into Device Manager, ave a look under CD-ROM drives, etc and see whether or not the units.drives have been detected.

If worse come to worse, remove one your CDRW drives and try and re boot wity only one drive.

Remeber that you can only put two peripherals per IDE port.

BTW: What OS are you using ?

Post the NeroHistory.log data (in the Nero subdirectory) for a failed burn that resulted in the Communication Failure error.

This error has been associated with a failure to operate properly in UDMA mode. Try setting the burner to PIO mode 4, and if it works this would help to define to problem. If it works in PIO mode 4 make sure that you have enough DMA channels available for use. In Device Manager | Sound, video, and game controllers if SoundBlaster DOS emuation is enabled, disable and remove it. In the system BIOS, if the parallel port is set to ECP, change it to EPP or standard mode. Reenable DMA for the burner and try it again.

This error can also be caused by a bad IDE cable. This would also explain why the error repeats with different drives. Swapping the drives around may appear to fix the problem, but is the cable is bad this just avoids the problem until the connection is used again.

Try replacing the cable with a new one. Try using both a 40 wire and 80 wire cable to see if it makes a difference. Don't try a 40 wire cable for the hard drive, just the burners.

ok i took the advice of Albinoni
i unplugged the IDE cable from the second Drive and restarted the computer,it burns from 1-48x but if i hook up the i'll get the error again.
btw the 2nd drive never has DMA enabled

also is 24x the max speed i should record Audio at?
is there a program that can check audio disk?

Why doesn't your second drive have DMA enabled? This could be causing the problem. What is the make and model of the second drive (non Liteon)?

hp cdwriter plus 9100 8x4x32
i think the instructions that came with it said to disable it.
i never really messed with the hps dma setting since it burned w/o problems.
i will hook it back up and enable dma to see what happens
i'll post 2mmorow because i'm going to sleep now
