I've had extremely good luck with Ritek (Ridata Brand) 4X +R and 4X -R.

Couple cheap places...

www.rima.com
www.allmediaoutlet.net
www.mertiline.com

FYI Meritline has a sale on the Ridata 4X -R media with free shipping.

It's good that you asked before pulling the trigger. A lot of folks go out and buy cheap media before doing some research, then get upset at the drive when they burn a lot of coasters. When in fact the issue is with the media they bought. Best way to look at it is that the DVD media market is about 18 months behind the CDR market in terms of quality.

Here's a good place to check on the quality of media.

Generally -R media has greater compatibility with players than +R.

Here's a good format info and compatibility comparison article.

"Generally -R media has greater compatibility with players than +R. "

Not if you use the new booktype utility,DVD-ROM has 98% compatibility.

You need to read my statement again bubba. That's why I included "generally" in my comment.

If you don't have a LiteOn drive, that utility doesn't do much good now does it? Does LiteOn have a dominant market share in the DVD burner market? No. So "generally" is a rather appropriate qualification when we're talking about the two formats in the aggregate... agree?

@tazdevl,
I mentioned the utility because kpassman HAS a Lite-On drive and I was giving kpassman an alternative in case his DVD player doesn't like DVD-R or DVD+R.

@kpassman,
Go to www.dvdrhelp.com or www.doom9.org,you will find guides on backing up DVD's.
