Help: Identify DVD writer

Postby Halc on Sun Nov 25, 2007 7:24 am

Hi guys,

I'm trying to locate a DVD burner (external) for OS X / Windows -mixed use:

- external
- firewire (1394a is ok) + USB 2.0
- quality in reading (high jitter, low reflectance, scratched discs)
- quality writing to quality media (better MCC, TY, MXL Made in Japan, etc)

BY/DIY options (buy casing, buy internal, mix together) are out of option as these guys don't know how to do it and I don't have the time.

So, I'm looking at:

LaCie d2 18x DVD±RW with LightScribe
http://www.lacie.com/uk/products/product.htm?pid=10908

LaCie d2 20x DVD±RW with LightScribe
http://www.lacie.com/uk/products/product.htm?pid=11005

but I have trouble identifying the drives they use from the specs (and I don't trust the photos, they could be from some earlier models).

Anybody able to tell which drives are likely to be inside those LaCie models?

I forgot what they were using. I want to say NEC or Samsung.

Thanks Ian!

That is a sort of a relief. I'll recommend the 20x version and a quality disc that fits the model. I'll report the actual model here for other's benefit, if I find it out for myself.
