Flashing LED on NEC 1000 DVD+RW

Postby ukcobra on Tue May 20, 2003 1:55 pm

HI,

I have a Verbatim DVD+RW which is an OEM NEC 1000 unit.

Purchased at Frys on 23rd March this year.

Today it permanently flashes the Green Activity light, and when I check the properties it appears to have the wrong product description, i.e an NEC 1100.

I don't recall trying to flash it with different firmware. Although I did try the NEC 1000 firmware from firmware-flash.com

Its not immediately possible to return it to Frys as the drive is in the UK with me.

Is there anyway of re-flashing it, and tools to use.

Verbatim Support said send it back, but that will take a while to resolve, I'd rather try and troubleshoot a bit further.

I hope someone can help me.

Thanks

Mark

I think this is normal, as it does that after the drive is being flashed,
Have you flashed the firmware in pure DOS mode?
Is it doing the same thing(flashing led) even after you switch off and
then on your system...? If yes, try reflashing your drive , best luck....

(the dos specific flash utility for NEC DVDRW drives in Etnas website will do the job, run the executable in command prompt to see the help instructions and what parameters you can use for reflashing your drive )

Does the Etna's flasher work like MTKFLASH? Because if you go wrong with mtkflash bios update you can always retry even if the bios is crashed by specifying the IDE position - the flasher will flash even a dead drive. So I did it before with a Sony 210 drive and i want to know if i am risking too much at nec 1100a.
