firewire problems (plextor 708)

Postby wicked1 on Sat Oct 18, 2003 3:53 am

Well I knew something had to go wrong. My plextor wont recognize when its on the firewire bus.The other 3 drives are writing fine. 3 different compilations at once with no slowdown and hardly any CPU usage.I dont know why but I tried to switch the plextors location from master to slave and vise versa on the internal firewire conversion kit and it doesnt recognize it as being there :( Anyone have any ideas? I tried searching the net to see if anyone is having luck with external firewire cases and the plextor but didnt get any useful hits. Please help me figure this out.

PLEXTPR 708 on Firewire

Postby sqlb on Sat Oct 18, 2003 9:50 am

I have my Plextor 708 on an ADS Firewire case and has never had any problems with it. Have you tried removing the other devices, change cable etc.. What kind of Firewire interface card are you using? Mine is an Adaptec Dual Connect card. Could be your card. You have to set the drive as a master when you install it on the external case. Hope this helps.

PS; I have a Pioneer AU06 also on another external case connected via Firewire too and have had no issues.

Oh yeah this isnt an external enclosure. It is the internal kit for duplicators and the such.

CalOptic helped me get the pelxtor working with the internal firewire kit.The plextor was trying to run in Pio mode and causing the firewire converter to lockup.Works fine now.Do you think maybe we could add in a faq for people that are trying to get multiple burners working at once that firewire is the bomb :) Heck with multiple ide controllers this uses hardly any resources at all.

if you would write up a short FAQ reguarding the problems you had with the FireWire kit and Plextor's help in getting working again, that would be great!
