FAX Software

Postby georgeg on Thu Oct 09, 2003 11:27 am

OK, I would like to hear some recommendations for good FAX software. I'm not looking for anything fancy, I just need to send the occasional fax from my PC, generally a scanned image of some form I need to submit somewhere. It needs to be compatible with WinXP Pro and Win 98. Any suggestions? Is there such a thing as good, FREE fax software?

I think that both Win98 and WinXP come with basic fax software.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. It should meet my very limited fax needs.

how/where do you access the Fax software built into WinXP?

To install it, Start -> Control Panel -> Add or Remove Programs -> Add/Remove Windows Components -> Fax Services. If I remember right, the fax program shows up as a printer. When you "print" to the fax "printer", it lets you select a telephone number and other options.

Go to this link for instructions on how to activate the Fax software built into WinXP: http://www.winxpnews.com/index.cfm?id=52&search=fax

After its activated apparently you just "print to FAX" to send your fax. I haven't tried it yet, tho.

I was successfully able to recieve a fax the 1 time I actually tried. Of course whenever the phone rings, so does my computer...but that's ok, when i have my speakers turned up, i wouldnt hear it except that the ring from the computer is about as loud as the music....
