DVD-ROM drive has stopped reading DVD+RW

Postby wsa on Wed Jan 29, 2003 10:28 am

Hi, folks.

I hope someone here can help me out...

I recently installed an HP DVD100i dvd-writer on my PC running Windows XP professional. I discovered that the bundled (bungled?) RecordNow/DLA software would not write CDs that could be read on my Macintosh at work, so I reinstalled Easy CD Creator. Things were humming right along. My Mac was happy. I was happy.

I then discovered, to my pleasant surprise, that the DVD+RWs I formatted with DirectCD could be read on the LiteOn 166S DVD-ROM I have installed in my PC (unlike the DVD+RWs formatted by RecordNow/DLA). I found this to be very useful and was using it to copy files from one DVD+RW to another. Then something went major-league floohey. As it tried to copy one of the files, the session crashed. It didn't crash my computer, but the recording stopped. Since then, I have not been able to read any DVD+RWs in the drive. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the EasyCD 5 Platinum software with the all the updates. I found a copy of cdudfrw.vxd to put in my system32 folder. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the DVD-ROM driver. Nothing seems to work and I can't find any information on what could possibly have gone wrong on the LiteOn site, on Roxio's site, or anywhere via Google. I dug through many, many, many posts here, and I could not find any posts about this issue. For the life of me, I can't imagine why the drive would read DVD+RWs and then just stop.

Have any of you encountered this problem, and if you have, can you tell me how to fix it? I would be incredibly grateful. This has been most vexing, and being an obssessive sort o' guy, I haven't been able to let it go for days!

Thanks in advance!
