DUAL LAYER DVDS?

Postby HOLYSPIRIT on Mon Sep 22, 2003 1:31 pm

Before I buy a DVD burner...

Whats the deal with dual layer dvds?
Can I make proper back ups of my dvd movies
do I have to make it across multiple disks?

There are no dual layer recordable DVD's. There are dual sided recordable DVD's. You need to either split the DVD or recompress it so that it fits on a single disc with the expense of some video quality.

IMO you have to be either sitting next to the screen or be looking at it with a microscope to see a difference these days.

Use DVD Shrink: www.dvdshrink.org.

It's the best program for compressing movies...

yes you can. try compress any tv series dvd9 disc (friends, alias, etc.) into a dvd5 and you'll see the difference even on a 13" tv.

for some reason your right about tv shows, for some reason if you compress it easier to see the compresssion although its still excellent quality

happened with my Sopranos Season 1-3, so i just made the 4 disk seasons into 8 disks each without compression

it's because most tv-shows are running 29.97fps interlaced, while most movies are 24fps progressive. also most of the time tv-source isn't as clean as movie-source and thus the source is not really good to start with.
