CDR's from South East Asia

Postby binny on Fri Jul 02, 2004 3:35 am

I've seen some cheap CDR's. Some are made in Hong Kong, Malaysia, China and India. Like Benq CDR's are made in Malaysia and Teac now in India.

Does anyone know the various manufacturers and whether any of them are any good?

As far as India goes, there is only one large manufacturer of blank CDs and that is Moser Baer and most of the companies are sourcing from them including Mitsubishi. The Moser Baer Pro CDR is quite good and unlike their previous offering, this one burns good and lasts long.

The only good cdrs I can suggest in Malaysia is those new BenQ cdrs with Dataguard and Mitsubishi Chemicals Sonic Azo/Verbatim Platinum 52X rated ones.EGen(Imation OEMs stright from CMC) are moderate and should be quite good for normal data archiving.

Only Moser Baer India is largest manufacturer in India. They had bad CD-R a couple of year before. But I have tried the new ones and I am happy.Basically I get Sony for the same price and go for them.

India itself is a continent. :D

South-east Asia usually means southeast of China, from Thailand and Myanmar, to the Philippinnes and Indonesia. China is not part of Southeast Asia, but rather East or Northeast Asia.

Only Malaysia's a Southeastern country among your list, but Malaysia itself has hardly any large media manufacturer though Thailand, Malaysia, and Singapore each has quite many important IT offices and factories in other areas. Most important CD and DVD lines are run by Taiwan and the Taiwanese manufacturers now own and control factories in all continents including North America, Europe, China, Southeast Asia, South Korea.

Moser Baer from India is a good source of CD and DVD media nowadays, often better quality/cost than Taiwanse.
