This printer can be modified to print on DVD/CD media by buying the tray from eBay and running software to enable it. Still a good buy even if you don't want to modify it.

Looks like a nice better then basic printer what with the built in duplex printing and individual ink tanks. The dvd printing would just be a bonus should you decide to add it.
I all ready have 3 good printers, a old HP 990 with duplex printing, Epson r800, and a r200. I use the 990 for everyday printing on plain paper and the 800 for photos and media printing. The r200 I gave to my sister who lives here for her own use on the machine I built her after I upgraded to the r800.
If it wasn't for already having so many I'd be right there buying that Canon, thanks.

I had the Epson R200. I threw it in the trash! It sucked ink like there was no tomorrow. I now have a Canon ip4500. I really like it. I just enabled CD/DVD printing and bought the tray last week. Works pretty good and doesn't charge the system using 1/4 of all other ink cartridges just because you replaced one. What a scam that Epson was! I am tempted to buy that Canon ip4700 and keep it in the box for later use.

Mine burned through the first set of carts pretty fast too but I recently got some auto reset refillable cartridges with extra ink to refill them 4 more times and it works better then it ever has as far as print quality goes. I think we'll have to refill the black cart soon but it seems to be doing really well and the spongeless carts weren't all that expensive for the quality of ink and the convenience.
I have heard the Canons are better on ink but never have tried one yet, maybe next time one of these gives out I'll give one a shot.

IF you have a actual Frys nearby you can check store availability seeing how I don't think it is the same price in store so some still have them. My store 20 miles away still shows some in stock.

Even though you live in Wisconsin, I think you are a heck of a lot closer to one than me and I live in Illinois.

Well I kinda figured that, they seem to mainly be in the western states and we got lucky enough to have them buy out the Incredible Universe store that Tandy used to run. It WAS Incredible and has pretty much stayed the same under Frys rule. Except for the bag checking at the door everything is pretty much laid out as before. They were even so cheap that the delivery truck still says incredible Universe on it with Frys stuck on the door with gold mailbox letters.
Every so often we make a day trip out of it and head down there when there's a good enough deal or we're in the mood, always some trinket worth buying.
Lucky they are 20 miles away or I'd hang out there almost everyday. :D

There's a Fry's north of Chicago. Every time I drive down, I mean to stop but never seem to get a chance.

I really didn't know how great we had it until CompUSA closed. Now you can't go out and buy something as simple as a damn SATA to eSATA adapter. Yeah, you can order this stuff from Newegg, but there are times when you need it NOW and don't want to wait a few days.

Well next time your out that way bring some money and a list of trinkets you need as they seem to carry almost anything a geek, tech, A/V guy, or homeowner would need. Every time I go out there I always realize afterwords I should have picked up something else, like the heavy duty electronics parts cleaner spray that doesn't short out running gear, adpaters, etc.
They seem to be about the only one stop shop for anything I might need parts or gear wise. Just be prepared for the door Nazi's on the way out :-$
