Can't enable DMA in XP device manager

Hi there,

I read the FAQ about how to enable DMA in XP, but when I check the secondary IDE channel properties in device manager, there is no advanced settings tab and I cannot set it to DMA. Anyone know how to fix this? Thanks

Go to Device Manager on Windows Xp (Right Click on MyComputer Icon) then click on EIDE Controllers, find out what Controller your CD_RW is connected to (Primary or Secondry) let say secondry, right click on that and click uninstall, reboot you computer, go back to Device Manage after rebooting and click on secondry controller, click on property go to advance setting and from Transfer Mode select DMA if available, click Ok reboot your computer and then go back to this Advance Setting after rebooting now you should have DMA enable for your drive.

if you're using Intel's Application Accelerator there will be no Advanced Settings tab. you have to enable DMA from the IAA.

this may also be true if you're using some 3rd party IDE busmastering drivers, e.g. VIA, SIS etc. IDE drivers (i don't know for sure).

are you using non-Microsoft IDE drivers?

I checked in IAA and it appears that my current transfer mode is UDMA 2. Thanks for the help!
