Do I buy a Sony or Pioneer Burner???HELP!!

Postby k9tpr on Fri Nov 28, 2003 12:28 pm

Hi,
I am in the market for a DVD burner. I have been looking at the Sony DRU-510a and the Pioneer DVR-AO6.
I just returned a LiteOn LDW-411s that gave me too many headaches.
I would like to back up movies (XBOX Compatable), PC Games and XBOX games. I currently have DVD XCOPY Xpress and DVD Wizard Pro software.
Can someone please help me with my decision and the pros and cons of these drives? Or if there is another drive I should be looking at.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I have not used either drive, but a lot of people find the Pioneer A06 to be one of the best DVD Burners around. It burns fast, is a quality writer, and is very good from what I hear. I don't think it has any big compatibility problems with anything.

go for the true pioneer DVR-106 or the oem memorex which you can in turn flash to true pioneer dvr-106d

owned it, loved it, just got a free swap out with plextor 708a 8x dvd burner

Thanks for the input.
I was edging toward the Pioneer however the reviews I have read say that it mtends to be slower that others.
Also, what is the difference between the 106 and A06?
Thanks

A06 - retail

it's the same drive.

Thanks,
Does the 106 come with the same software as the A06 or is it just a bare drive?

depends on who you buy and what the description says

some 106's come with software, no software

cable, no cable

all depends on who you buy from

Thanks everyone,
I just found an A06 at eCOST.com for 119.99 after rebate.
Not bad.
Hopefully I will have better luck with this than I did with the LiteOn 411s I returned.
Thanks again for the input!!

Yep i agree with hoxlund, I got the pioneer 106 and use both those two progs. Tho i only use the drive for the actual burning. Reading ripping & preparing i do that with my liteon 16x dvd rom because for ripping its more than twice as quick. The pioneer is slow for ripping dvd's.

I also sometimes use dvd x copy express. The length of time that prog goes from beginning of preperation to finishing the dvd movie burn is much less than dvdshrink. That prog does the burning too. Quality is just as good.

I own a Pioneer A06 that I've been very happy with.

The bundled software included:
Nero Express 5.5
Ulead MovieFactory2
Ulead VideoStudio7
SA Packet Writing (Haven't used this one).

I've been pretty happy with the included software.

The software included with the 106 would depend on which company bundled it. For example, the Memorex drive comes with Roxio Easy CD/DVD creator 6 as the burning software.
I used to be indecisive, but now I'm not so sure...

I see you bought the 106.
Both the Pioneer 106 and Sony 510A are great DVD burners, so you couldn't have gone wrong with either one.

I used to own a Sony DRU-500A; I only sold it (along with my other 2 DVD burners) to uopgrade to 8X, otherwise I would still be using it now...

Enjoy!

just buy an external usb or firewire case along with the internal pioneer

heres link to external firewire case:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDe ... archdepa=1

but for $10 more you can get the usb2 + firewire case:

http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDe ... archdepa=1

im using the usb case made from them, bought it from newegg, im using my JLMS 166s dvd-rom drive in it, works exactly the same as if it were in my computer

The Firewire case huxlund linked to is the one I am using.

No problmes with any burners just a problme which was fixed with a firmware modifcation on a dvd-rom drive.

This thread might also be of some help.
