Are these Ricoh

Postby dbreaux on Sun Oct 12, 2003 3:41 pm

Best Buy has a 100 ct spindle of TDK DVD+R for $189.00. Are these produced my Ricoh? They can be found here: http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp ... d=cat01163 By the way, could someone tell me how to post images in my forum messages?

Dartman, could I get you to run dvdinfo on the media and verify our assumption. It can be found here: http://www.dvdinfopro.com/

I still have some left.
I bought 200 on sale when they were $129 + tax per 100 at BestBuy months ago.
I returned 100 when they had Memorex 4X +R on sale for $30 per 25 pack months ago - the same promotion they have this week coincidentally.

I also got Verbatin 4X DVD+Rs for as low as $1 each + tax, which is what I paid last night (after a $5 coupon) for 25 Memorex 4X +R discs ($24.99 + tax).
The coupon has since expired.

I am confident it will be even easier to find 4X media routinely under $1 a disc by year end.

EDITED POST: To clarify that the TDKs were $129 per spindle of 100, in case anyone thought it was 200 for $129.

Yes, that is correct. They have the same sale price they had a few months ago.
I have seen a few better deals on 4X +R media, but this is, to the best of my knowledge, the best deal on name brand (i.e. Ricoh made or MCC [not to be confused with CMC] made) 4X +R media in the US this week.

I need to get some more + media and I guess I'll just have to keep trying small batches of - till I find some 4x the 500 likes. Did you find any that worked when you had your's VEFF?

Unfortunately I can't help:
I didn't try a single 4X -R with my 500A before selling it, because
4X +R was always on sale and therefore cheaper.
4X +R was often cheaper than 2X -R (e.g. TDK and Verbatim deals)
In addition, brand name 4X -R was harder to find.

I can have a few thousand Ricoh 4x DVD+R discs for about US$1.5 per disc. This seems to be the best priced 8x-recordable media in South Korean retail market. But PX-708X price here is over US$300, about 2x OEM price.

Best Buy's sale price on Memorex 4x DVD+R (25pack spindle for $29.99) is 40% off the regular price. CompUSA had a 40% off coupon all Memorex DVD media last week, so thats the same deal. They repeat that sale on Memorex only quite often. I've never used DVD-R on my combo recorder because the faster 4x DVD+R media and DVD+RW media is cheaper for me with all the sales - I just don't get those who use 1x DVD-R media all the time, so slow and not really cheaper if you shop around. Plus the el-cheapo DVD-R media is lower quality too.

Minus media is more compatible with older equipment so I use it when I can. As I said so far I haven't found any that writes faster then 2x so I'll probably stick with plus becuase it does work at 4x and that's part of the reason I bought my drive, to burn faster.
All of the drives and players I have now work with plus, my older ones didn't.

Thanks for the confirms dolphinius_rex and Dartman.

Time to stock up. A hundred should be good enough for now. Don't want to have a room full of 4x when 8x comes out.

Thanks I noticed you'd posted you got them to work. Would any of the popular stores like BB or like that have any in stock so I could try em out?
The ones form PC Club I got are generic ricoh and claim 4x but still only do 2. The worst part is I bought 50 and my Step dad got me 25 more  Well at least they work...S L O W L Y.

Just happened to be browsing Amazon.com and found they have the Memorex 4x DVD+R for $30 also. Since those bastards at BB will charge me tax, I went w/ Amazon. Free S/H and no tax. Sweetness.
