Sigh.. that doesn't mean that the disc is actually rated at that speed. You'd think he would have learned this after reviewing the Plextor.

Why do you think I was asking about Verbatim media?

Could have been asking for any number of reasons.
Murse wrote:I just received the latest firmware from QSI (the Taiwan time difference is pretty handy sometimes ) If someone needs it, let me know. Or, better yet, if someone can host it, I will send it along.
Here is the text included with the e-mail:
"The BX0308 still not support Mt. Rainier. Because there are some bugs
still at debugging.
The BX03 and BX02 have most different:
1. 40X CDR writing support
2. More DVD/CD recordable medium support
3. Booktype (bit setting) support
4. Manufacture run-in yield rate improved
5. More... You can refer to this end of email.
Pls try it!"

Murse wrote:I've been corresponding with a QSI tech in Taiwan about the Nu Tech drives. My last e-mail asked if there was a QSI utility for controlling bitsetting with these drives. I included the BenQ utility to give him an idea what I was talking about.
Well, to my surprise, I received an e-mail this morning with a QSI utility attached. He said it would work with firmware BX03 and above. I'm at work and have been unable to test it, but if someone wants it, I will forward it along. It is not yet on the Nu Tech site, so it may need to get hosted somewhere as well.
Nu Tek...I sent it to you...I still had your e-mail from the PM you sent.
BTW, has anyone done any transfer rate testing? I asked about it in another post...any info would be appreciated.

Will let you know how it works out...going to order some of the Memorex +R's from Amazon for $29.99....Hope they work with the DDW-081...Nu Tech seems to be updating fairly fast so hopefully they will have this unit as a Dual writer soon...that would be nice....At $139 if it just does +R at 8X and +RW at 4X I will be happy.....Big John
Murse wrote:On Unitedmicro. I ordered my drive from them. Other than the fact that they didn't ship on the day I ordered, everything arrived fine. It was new, retail...as described, and was well packed. Their customer service seemed a little clueless, but hopefully I won't have to return it.
On the bitsetting utility. I just tried it with a DVD+RW. With the disc in the drive, I just clicked the button I wanted the disc to be set at and hit RUN. I noticed that the light on the drive turned red for an instant. DVDInfopro then showed the disc with a DVD-ROM book type. So, I guess it works. Did not try it with a DVD+R.
