Not necessarily:
Verbatim are either Ricoh (same as Memorex 4X +R) or Mitsubishi Chemical (MCC).
If you get MCC, then they are probably or possibly better.
Memorex
+R media is not as bad as some seem to think it is because the Plextor had some speed issues with them with the previous firmware:
The
previous Plextor firmware didn't allow them to be burned at full 8X speed.
They might be slightly inferior to TDK or Verbatim (at 8X), but I am sure they will be fine in the long run...
They are made by Ricoh, just like TDK and some of the Verbatim discs out there.
I personally have only been buying Verbatim 4X +R (or any other +R media for that matter) when they are $1.00 or a bit above (i.e. $1.08) per disc + tax, since I could have bought thousands if I wanted to at those prices during the past three B1G1F sales...
As of right now my price point is closer to $1.00
If I remember correctly: From what I read, the profit margin on DVD media is still pretty big right now, even when using special sales prices in the calculations...
