Nero Burning ROM, Nero Express, NeroVision Express, Recode, InCD, etc..

Always with the same error....

Postby Encyn on Mon Feb 21, 2005 4:01 pm

I've tried everything. DMA is on, ASPI is working correctly, I've uninstalled, cleaned and reinstalled. I've uininstalled NERO, uninstalled every other program that might access the bruning drive, cleaned, reinstalled NERO only and still no dice. I can (if it's installed) burn music CD's just fine with WinAmp and most functions regarding basic storage using Windows XP to drop and burn files work fine - but every thing I try to burn with Nero craps out and gives me the same error:

That is taken from the entire error log which I'll paste below.

I'm running WinXP Pro SP2 on an AMD Athlon XP 1800+ with 1 GB ram
Drive is an HP DVD Writer 200j driver version 5.1.2600.2180 (xpsp2_rtm.040803-2158) DMA is ON

Any clues??

Hmmm...36 views and nothing yet, eh?

This error wouldn't bug me so much except that I can usually burn between 60% to 80% of a CD or DVD before the thing craps out. Which makes me think there's a way to fix it...and I'm one of those stubborn bastards.

What we need to do is try and isolate the issue.

The first step to do this would be to first see if the issue is with the Recorder or the Nero software. I would recommend downloading Free Demo of another Recording program to see if they have the same issue. Such as NTI's software which you can download from www.ntius.com or you can go with something like CloneCD. Just to see if another Non-Microsoft product will work or have the same issues.

If NTI's or Clone software works, then I would suspect our software is having troubles with something on your system.

If another program has the same issue, then I must suspect either the Recorder or something on your system. We would then need to take the Recorder to another system to test there to see if the issue is the Recorder or the system.

I can (if it's installed) burn music CD's just fine with WinAmp and most functions regarding basic storage using Windows XP to drop and burn files work fine

But I'll grab one of the suggested alternatives you mentioned and give it a shot tomorrow.

Thanks! I'll report back when I have more info.

Well that's depressing...

Postby Encyn on Wed Feb 23, 2005 1:21 pm

/sigh...

Using NTI's CD &DVD Maker v. 7.0.0.22 The burn once again failed after writing more than 50%. Tried it burning at 8x speed and at 4x speed - both the same failure as the attempts with NERO.

Since I've tried many different types of media, I guess this means that it's a drive issue. What really frosts me, however, is that it will burn most of a job, just not all of one. That and of course that the device is out of warranty

Thanks for the help...Now to seek out a thread/forum that might have some answers for beating the HP Burner into submission.

Oh yeah, just in case someone was interested:

I recall one guy here taking a shotgun to a defunct or cantancerous drive (don't remember who it was though). You might try that if all other tries fail...

Hi Encyn,

Sorry to here it still fails, but we can not yet be 100% sure the issue is a defective recorder, though it very strongly looks like that's the case.

To be 100% sure, you should take the Recorder to another system and use either Nero or NTI just to confirm the issue is not system related.
