Almost every vendor has jacked up their DVD-R prices

PRINCO 2X ("True 2X"):
allmediaoutlet.com just raised their prices on true 2X media by 20%, now that they are "back in stock"
qtccdr also raised prices on true 2X media (not by as much though)...

yesbuy.net has actually reduced them or kept them the same, depending on quantity ordered, but their ratings are scary, and for some reason they can only manually remove shipping charges AFTER you place the order, which is a stupid way to do it.

RITEK 1X:
Every vendor has increased their prices on these.

Ritek 4X: becoming more attractive, since these haven't gone up in price (up until now not as popular as 1X or 2X media).
Burners only:
Pioneer DVR-115D
Pioneer DVR-111D
Plextor PX-716A TLA0304
Plextor PX-716A same TLA

Good thing I picked up a batch of 25 DVD-Rs a few weeks ago. Too bad they're only 1X. :(

why not check ebay? most of the people selling them in spindles on there also have online stores, and their ebay "buy it now" prices are usually $10 - $15 US$ cheaper than their online store prices. ebay prices can vary, but if you check around, competitive pricing can be found on there if you know what "competitive" is in first place;

also, some other stores i have seen selling dvd recordable media online :
(haven't bought from any of these personally...)

http://www.rima.com
http://www.shop4tech.com
http://www.esbuy.com

as a comparison, locally here (Canada), local stores are ripping everyone off in a major way for recordable DVD media.

one store has Optodisc 1x/2x media for $5 CAN$ each, or a spindle of 50 for $150 CAN$. Another store has Princo 1x discs for $7 CAN$ each, or $250 CAN$ for a spindle of 100; they also have Verbatim 2x discs for $13 CAN$ each. Another store sells Princo 1x discs for $2 CAN$ each when purchased in quantities of 10 or more (no jewel case -- paper envelope); they also have Princo or Ritek 4x discs for $5 CAN$ each when purchased in quantities of 10 or more, and they have spindles of 25 of the same discs for around $120 CAN$. Some other brands and varying pricing is available, but in general the pricing is all over the map.

You have to shop around, and best bet is to buy a spindle (from a reputable ebay or other seller), and either use the bulk load of discs yourself or else split them with a friend or neighbour. No matter what you sell spindle extras at to a friend, your price is almost sure to beat retail pricing.

Thanks! Wow, those Canadian prices are very high.

Actually I keep tabs on media at the major online retailers.
I can get Princo 2X for about a buck a disc for 25 or 50 (or a bit less if I order 100), but I was just getting a bit worried about the long term reliability...

I may check out ebay, although $1 a disc for "True 2X" media is more than good enough these days.

Yikes, the cheapest 2X media around here is Princo... $2.49 (Cdn.) when bought in spindles of 100.
It'll take quite a while for that to get down below... well even $2 Cdn.! :(
